Hello all you change-making enthusiasts,

Before you read the rest of this message, I wrote a little note,
a backgrounder of sorts of the MyCJN journey and our plan this 2011/2012. But if you want to go straight to the meat, here it is!

MYCJN is organizing a new Environmental Sustainability Leadership Sympsium (ESLS) to empower youths to become dynamic agents of change, effective organizers and influential opinion leaders.

We’re going to be running workshops on Movement Building, Theories of Change, Consensus Decision Making and the like. Then we’ll share some awesome tools to help you organize: Project Management, Strategy, Power Mapping, Social Action Skills, getting your stuff out to the media, advocacy etc. We’re going to be discussing deep stuff like Civil Disobedience, Non-Violent Direct Actions, Online Campaigning and things like that.

In sum, it’s a three-day crash course aimed at skilling you up and giving you the tools you need to make a difference – in super fun ways!

We’re aiming to open participant application by mid May, organizing our training the trainers late June and targeting to run the symposium the weekend of 8-10 July 2011.

For now, we’re recruiting our core organizing team.

Positions are open for:

1) Recruitment officer : Key person in charge of managing, delegating and working behind the scenes to get the right people at ESLS. Key deliverable would be an outreach strategy and volunteer/participant management. If you like making new friends and find it a personal challenge to connect people, then we want to hear from you!
2) Logistics officer : The person in charge of moving things, keeping energy levels high and setting the stage for ESLS. Core responsibilities would be keeping everyone well fed, sorting out accommodation and transport. If you like running around and working on the ground, you’d find this absolutely fun!
3) Creative & Comms : Getting the word out to spread all the awesomeness! If you’ve got experience in creative web design, know how to work a computer and can create wonderful, fun messages to reach out to big crowds, this is for you!

We meet once a week, mostly Tuesday nights in the Subang area but we’re pretty flexible with location and timings. If you’re interested, please apply here.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers and organic lollipops,
Khairun, Ron and CC
(Co-conveners of ESLS'11)

PS : Feel free to circulate! Thanks!

The Environmental Sustainability Leadership Symposium (ESLS) is a 3-day workshop organized by MyCJN.  ESLS serves as a peer education platform to empower young people by providing them with the necessary tools to become independent sustainability leaders and change agents. The symposium also connects Malaysian youths to a global network of empowered climate advocates who will facilitate the effective synergy and coalition of various chapters of youth climate change movements.

Some of key aspects the workshop include:
  • Analysis of the big picture. An understanding of the theories of change.
  • Campaign and project tools and development strategies for participants to run their own activities and networks.
  • Personal and interpersonal development skills
  • Working in groups and consensus building.
